Obligation to "Protecting Future, Today"?

Obligation to "Protecting Future, Today"?

1. Accustom Activities to plant trees in our surroundings

Our attention toward the replanting of trees around us, which we are familiar with the term greening, is our duty in the present. The simple act of planting trees around us can be a small step to demonstrate our concern for the environment by conserving natural resources that are very limited.
Work replant mangrove forests, protected forests and deforestation is a larger work that will contribute to saving the forest resources that are dwindling due to human greed.
Trees play an important role in our life. They provide us with a lot of things such as paper, oxygen, etc. In short, they are very important to our survival on Earth. Right now, the rate at which humans cut down trees far exceeds the rate of both natural reforestation or managed reforestation. Currently, we are cutting trees so fast that we are actually cutting 12 million hectares of forest every year. If there are no steps taken to stop this action, soon, we will lose almost all our forests in the world.

Actually, deforestation itself is not a bad thing. The problem now is that we are doing excessive deforestation, which means that we cut down more trees than we plant them which will eventually mean running out of trees to cut and affecting our future living conditions.

1) The carbon cycle ----- Trees take in carbon dioxide and produces oxygen when photosynthesizing, therefore helping to control the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. So when excessive deforestation occurs, there would not be enough trees to help regulate the carbon dioxide content and the oxygen content in the air, resulting in the level of carbon dioxide in the air rising greatly.
2) The water cycle ----- Plant takes in water and transpires. If there are fewer trees to transpire, the surrounding area will have lees moisture in the air, resulting in a hotter and drier climate in the future.
3) Soil Erosion ----- The roots of the trees help hold the soil together, the branches and leaves of the trees also helps to shield the soil from rain or sunshine. With the trees gone, there won’t be anymore protection and there will eventually be soil erosion. Soil erosion can cause road blocks, can cause destruction to some small towns and cities and will also remove the fertile layer of soil when it occurs.
4) Destruction of animal habitats ----- Most animals lives in the forest. If the forests are excessively cut down, there will not be anymore place for them to live. Soon these animals will become extinct and will only exist in photographs or zoos or our memories.

2. Examples of Environmental Care Activities in Bank Syariah Mandiri

In each the financing proposal analysis to Bank Syariah Mandiri. An analysis of the AMDAL (Environmental Impact Analysis) is one factor that must to be studied, if the customer who filed the financing and production residues cause untreated waste so damaging to the environment, hence its financing proposal will be rejected.
Our concern for problems of maintaining our environment, especially an impact on existing natural resources that was limited such as water, soil, trees, if we are not aware with these conditions, then our grandchildren will not receive a good inheritance from previous generations as we inherited resources that are still abundant from our ancestors.
Another example that does not directly impact on environment and natural resources that was limited, is leaving a great Bank to the router (the next BOD) up to the next generation as an Obligation for today. BOD (Board of Director) policies of Bank Syariah Mandiri to set aside a portion of profit from companies as cash reserve for PPAP (PPAP: allowance for possible losses of earning assets), which is a backup in the form of cash funds in bank accounts at any time if the financing problem should be written off or there is no more ability for payment obligations to the Bank.
In Bank Indonesia Regulation, PPAP banks can be reduced by the value of fixed asset from customers’collateral that was in NPF (Non Performing Financing) condition. However, BOD BSM reserves above 100% (since 2009) as a cash caunted from the troubled financing (excluding the portion of corporate profits).
Profit company that should be recognized as an achievement from management that is running this business in the prior fiscal year was reduced, this impact on net income earned in the year end, the amount of bonuses that will be accepted by BOD. Reserving was done hopefully future generations / the new BOD that replace the current financial condition may be inherited a really healthy Bank because the potential losses have been reserved in cash.

Working with the basic philosophy not to be greedy, not to be wasteful and concern for the environment is an obligation we have to run this time, none other than to protect future generations from receiving the inheritance that is worse than our current generation.

3. A Professional Engineer Obligation

An Engineer, do not just think of product design to achieve maximum benefit. An Engineer must be thinking, what the implications of the products developed for the community.
Starting from the engineer that who concerned with the choice of material, whether such materials can be dangerous for the environment ? Or exacerbate the effects of environmental degradation such as greenhouse effect?
How to serve the product materials that can be renewed so as not to spend a lot of natural resources that are very limited. An engineer who is always looking for material substitution for one product exploiting a certain natural resources that the possibility of depleting reserves. Looking for alternative materials is to wise up the efforts of our current obligations to protect the future of our grandchildren.
An Engineer that was not equipped with the ethics of the environment will never care about the impacts that will occur on products which are designed and manufactured for the environment.
The next concern is whether the product creation process requires a lot of energy so that squander existing resources. An engineer who has a vision far ahead for the environment would be to think carefully through the production process which does not consume a lot of energy so it can conserve existing natural resources.
The next step is the result of the product, wheter it can renewable or not. If the product is unused anymore, when discarded, would lead toxin to environment or not. How the instructions for the disposal of these products not to make the environmental damage.
